Can Christmas be the time when Kirby finally stops running and allows himself to fall in love with the man who saves his life?
CIA Agent Stefan Mortimer is cooling his heels in the UK until he can go home. Taking on easy assignments with Bodyguards Inc. seems like a good solution to keep him sane. He’s used to life throwing him curveballs, and it’s just another day at the office when he rescues Kirby Devlin and his niece and nephew. Now he has to keep Kirby and the kids alive and stay professional.
Kirby Devlin has one priority; keeping his small family safe. On the run, and facing danger at every turn, Kirby finally runs out of places to hide on a snowy December day at Edinburgh airport. Stefan comes to the rescue, saves him and the children. Is it possible that Kirby finally has someone to trust?
Now, if only it would be as easy for Kirby to trust Stefan with his heart.

Stefan had waited until the kids were asleep so they could talk undisturbed and now he needed answers.
Kirby took a step back; a guilty expression crossed his face, and his gaze slid to one side. Avoidance if Stefan had ever seen it. Stefan felt helpless, how could his short interaction with the family be so important to him? Why had the welfare of Andy and Louise become important to him. Then he answered his own question, because children are vulnerable, and I can help.
“It’s complicated,” Kirby said, still not able to meet Stefan’s eyes, and Stefan snapped.
Years of suppressed emotion, of the wish that someone had been there for him when he needed them, bubbled and hissed beneath the surface. “Complicated?” he hissed, taking a step closer, keeping his voice as low as he could as Andy whimpered in his sleep. “How freaking complicated is it to hurt a child like that? What kind of man is their father? Is this your brother? Was he knifed by this McLeod guy?”
Stefan watched so many expressions cross Kirby’s face; expressions Stefan cataloged as fear and regret, but they could just as well have been guilt for all he knew of this man.
Kirby took a step back, raising his hands in a plea for Stefan to calm down. Finally, looking at Andy and Louise and then back at Stefan, he said something that would stay with Stefan forever. “My brother, he didn’t hurt us. It’s all my fault.”
It was only seconds, but Stefan moved with the compulsion born of his experiences, both as a child and as a CIA agent, to push Kirby up against the nearest wall. It didn’t matter that Kirby let out a yelp of pain or that Stefan’s wrist hurt like a fucker; he was getting answers to this before he would let Kirby go.
“What do you mean your fault?” he hissed.
“My brother called me, said he needed my help. I didn’t know.”
Kirby tried to twist out of Stefan’s hold, but nothing would make Stefan let go. “Didn’t know what?” he growled with impatience.
“That my brother owed money, that he was an addict, that his bairns were in danger. I didn’t know. I wasn’t there, and that is my fault.”
