Today my guest is Meredith Shayne. She put a big smile on my face when she shared a Christmas song
Don’t forget to check out the giveaways, including the chance to win one of Meredith’s books.
What’s the best gift (Christmas or otherwise) you’ve ever received?
A Fender Stratocaster electric guitar for my 21st birthday. I’ve been told that it’s a vintage guitar now *is old*
I’m vintage too 🙂 What’s your biggest gift giving success?
Buying my mum a trip to New York City. Buying myself a puppy this year was also a good move on my part.
Both sound like wonderful gifts! If you could be granted one special gift for the world for the holiday season, what would it be?
For everyone to stop being so bloody awful to each other all the time.
Christmas carols. Yes or no?
Little Drummer Boy: yes. Everything else: no. I don’t know why I like Little Drummer Boy so much, but I do.
Do you watch Christmas movies? If so, what’s your favourite all time holiday movie?
Not really, but as kids we used to religiously watch Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer (the 1964 version, because like I said, I’m old – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058536/) every single year. I would watch that now if they still played it.
I love sharing YouTube clips of holiday songs. Do you have a favourite to share?
I’m not sure if this is really considered a proper Christmas song, but it includes a young Simon Le Bon, so merry Christmas to me is all I can say! 🙂

Hi Meredith, thank you for the interview. For me ‘Do they know it’s Christmas’ is definitely a Christmas song. One of my favorites. The 1984 version that is.
meredithshayne says
Hi Tanja. The 1984 version (I almost typed 1894 there, haha) is definitely the better version! You can beat all those 80s pop stars!
jenf27 says
Thanks for the interview and video. And, I agree that “Do They Know It’s Christmas” is a holiday song.
meredithshayne says
Cheers, Jen! I’m glad everyone seems to think the same re: that song 🙂

A Fender Stratocaster is an amazing gift…Thank you for the interview, Meredith!
meredithshayne says
You’re welcome, Susana! I was thrilled to get that guitar, I’ve been told I could make money on it but I can’t imagine why I’d sell it!
Ami says
For everyone to stop being so bloody awful to each other all the time.
THIS!! THIS!!! I honestly wish that everyone will embrace the “Agree to Disagree” rather than “My Way or Highway” attitude
meredithshayne says
Hi Amy! Definitely. Although it seems things are going to get worse before they get better, unfortunately. Fingers crossed we can all turn it around!
Shirley Ann Speakman says
Hi Meredith great interview and I totally agree with your wish “For everyone to stop being so bloody awful to each other all the time.” the world would be a better place.
meredithshayne says
Hi Shirley Ann! The world definitely would be a better place if we could get our act together. I guess all we can do is try to make our corners better and hope it rubs off on everyone else

I Love DoThey Know It’s Christmas? and i consider it a Christmas song. I was a big fan of Duran Duran in the eighties so i loved it that they were in this single.
But the part that that Bono (U2) sings: “Well tonight thank God it’s them, instead of you” that line is so powerful, i never forget the feelinig when hearing it for the first time.
Happy Holidays.
meredithshayne says
I also was a big fan of Duran Duran around that time (Simon <3) so I was also delighted with anything they were in. It's such a great song as a whole though, and the sentiment behind it is really something.
Happy holidays to you too!
Didi says
Great interview, Meredith – I share with your sentiment on wishing people be nice to each other. And I love that youtube clip, bring back memories… 🙂
meredithshayne says
Thanks Didi! That clip really does bring back memories, doesn’t it? I watched it a few times once I found it. I think I must have seen it hundreds of times during the 80s!
H.B. says
Thank you for the interview and video. I do consider it to be a Christmas song and most radio stations too since I always hearing it played frequently during the holiday.
meredithshayne says
I haven’t heard it yet, but I don’t listen to the radio that much anymore. I’m sure I will hear it at some point soon!
