Today my guest is Susan Reeves. Susan lives in Queensland and shares with us some stories about how she and her family spend Christmas. She says she makes a mean trifle so I really must ask for the recipe!
Don’t forget to check out the giveaways.
I love Christmas and always look forward to it. What’s your favourite holiday of the year and what makes it so special?
I like NYE, a time to reflect and make new plans, a fresh start and goals to work on.
I love NYE too. But more for the champagne and fireworks. 🙂
Do you and your family/friends have any special holiday traditions?
Potato salad and trifle. My kids look forward to these every Christmas dinner, although I’ve started making the potato salad all year round, so it’s not that special anymore.
What’s the best gift (Christmas or otherwise) you’ve ever received?
I got a yoghurt maker one year from my boyfriend’s mother. It was something I never knew I wanted until I unwrapped it and thought it was the coolest thing ever!
I have a yoghurt maker too but mine currently lives used in the back of a cupboard. What’s your biggest gift giving disaster?
I’d put a whole heap of things on lay-by for my kids and when I got home with them on Christmas Eve realized one child only had two things out of all of it. Eeeek! Some ages are easier to buy for than others. It was a mad scramble to come up with things, she totally picked up on it and I still hear about it to this day.
LOL. Every kids needs something to tease their mother about so you gave them a fabulous gift!
If you could be granted one special gift for the world for the holiday season, what would it be?
For everyone to have peace in their home, their heart, and their life.
Christmas carols. Yes or no?
Usually no. I worked in a shopping centre in my early twenties and for 40 hours a week for 2 months I was subjected to the same CD of Christmas music. It had long-lasting implications. On that note Trans-Siberian Orchestra versions I can listen to endlessly!
Do you watch Christmas movies? If so, what’s your favourite all time holiday movie?
We all love Elf with Will Ferrell. Hands-down favourite. “First we’ll make snow angels for a two hours, then we’ll go ice skating, then we’ll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookiedough as fast as we can, and then we’ll snuggle.”
I love reading stories set in the holiday season and I especially like seeing stories set all over the world. I love seeing how others celebrate and I love reading about guys getting their special holiday happy ever afters. Do you read holiday romances? If so, do you have a favourite you’d like to recommend to your readers?
I love the Minnesota Christmas series by Heidi Cullinan. Even though their Christmas season is nothing like our I love dreaming of snow and all the things you can do in it, also the stories are sweet and sexy.
Tell us a little about the favourite book you released this year?
I think it would have to be I See You. It was my first and it was scary and exciting to put it out there. I knew it wasn’t perfect but it has been so accepted and loved and inspired me to keep going.
What does 2017 hold for you on the writing front? What can your readers expect to see from you?
Three releases planned for the first half of the year (fingers crossed!) Submerged, Shire Boys # 2, and I Taste You. After that I’m not making any firm commitments but there will be words getting done!
There are many people who aren’t as fortunate as me and this time of year is always a time where I reflect on how lucky I am. It’s a time for giving back and I do so by supporting my favourite charity (Twenty10 who provide support for LGBT youth) financially and with their Christmas Hamper drive. Is there a favourite charity or not-for-profit organization you’d like to call out and raise the awareness of?
Friends with Dignity is an organization I’m involved with. They primarily set up homes for families that are coming out of refuge as a result of domestic violence. They also have several drives throughout the year to give families in refuges something they need, or to make them feel special.
Check out one of Susan’s books…
Blurb: Shire Boys Luke and Aiden
The Sutherland Shire: Upmarket, cosmopolitan, family-friendly, and a blend of old-money and new.
The Tweed Shire: Rich in traditional culture, a retirement mecca of Australia, also family-friendly, and affordable to many.
Two shires. So similar in geographical features and lifestyle, but vastly different at the same time.
When things around you are constantly shifting, and you find yourself needing a bit of a change—but at the same time you want to keep the things you love about your lifestyle—what do you do? You shire swap!
Luke and Aiden: Both shire boys, both young, and both quietly gay. When they first lay eyes on each other their attraction is instant, but also confusing. Luke’s about to go under the knife, and Aiden’s about to become a father. Could it ever happen?
Welcome to the Shire Boys, where if you’re keen enough, anything can happen. Even if he makes you sick to your stomach—and him, he’s a total paddlepussy!
