RJ Scott and Meredith Russell visit to answer some questions. There’s a giveaway too!
Thank you for letting us invade your blog! As we were out of ideas we asked for questions and boy, did we get them! Honestly, itโs not all about zombies and sexโฆ
Ann-Marie O’Callaghan asks…
Has one of you ever written something and the other has gone EEEEWWWWWWWW!!!
RJ: Not for me. I love Meredithโs books. Yes, even her zombie one, Dead Things. When she first mentioned writing a story with zombies I was worried. Iโm a huge Walking Dead fan and all I could imagine was torment and yuckiness. Then she sent me chapter one and I realised what she was doing. She was focusing in on the human side. Yes, there is peril but there is the chance of love against a huge back story. Awesome book.
M: Hmmm. I canโt think of anything. In our joint writing the only thing that I remember ever thinking didnโt fit right with the characters so felt out of place, was some dialogue I think once during a sex scene. Not quite enough to make me go eww, but it made me stop.
RJ: Donโt tell me, I wrote itโฆ Hangs head in shameโฆ
M: In RJโs other books, I canโt think of anything either not with sex stuff or violence/gore lol
How do you feel now the series has come to an end? And what’s next from the two of writing together?
RJ: We have a new series that is already in the cover art stage. Based around a precinct we wanted something gritty and sexy with cops in itโฆ Hot cops, with guns, and issues, working with gangs, and newbiesโฆ and โฆ yeah.
M: I see you skipped right to the hot cops! But yeah, up next will be a cop series and you might have seen me post about buying images for the first two covers. Weโre in the planning stage as want a kind of long story arc through the books and then individual men and cases as well.
RJ: Our major planning will be at UK Meet with wine (well I will have wine anyways!
M: Iโm looking forward to it. It will be nice to switch it up and try something more serious together and I love a lot of the US cop tv shows and crime dramas so looking forward to giving it a go. But moving back to the first part of the question, Iโm actually quite sad to see the series end, and though we could write more stories it would be nice to take those similar plot points but use them somewhere new with a different feel to them.
RJ: I will miss Sapphire Cay big time. Mine and Meredithโs co-writing kind of grew up on the golden beaches of Sapphire Cay and I will miss Jamie the Marine, Ed the Wedding Planner, and of course Lucas and Dylan. Iโm also so sad to see Alfie and Peterโs story concluded – I loved researching all the info and pictures on old stories and photos.
M: It has been lovely to immerse myself in writing for Sapphire Cay. The stories are angsty at times but itโs just nice to have something that is easy to write, and I mean easy in the sense that we know the characters, and like RJ said our writing together grew with the characters and their world in the little slice of paradise called Sapphire cay. But in the end I think the story has rightly come to an end I hope people love it as much as I do.
Blurb
Feuding families, unearthed secrets, and a violent storm threatens the Cay. Will the idyllic island with her cast of characters make it through unscathed? Itโs time for the circle to close on the story of Sapphire Cay, and on the men who have lived and found love on her beaches.
Join characters old and new as we celebrate Dylan and Lucasโs wedding and delve into the history of Sapphire Cay.
Connor and Shaun are directly related to Peter and Alfie, a couple whose clandestine lover affair was overshadowed by old prejudices and a world war. Shaun Jamieson is a writer, a romantic and needs to pen the story of the affairโs final secrets; Connor Frenchโs family wants to stop Shaun.
When the two men step onto the sands of Sapphire Cay, they find more than just the secrets of an old love. They find hope and comfort in each other. But with the past hanging over them, can they ever have what Peter and Alfie could not? Or are they just as ill-fated as their ancestors?
Excerpt
The offices of the French Foundation, New York, June
โYour two oโclock is here, Mr. French.โ Miriamโs voice floated in over the intercom. The abruptness of it startled Connor from his cost-benefits analysis and he knocked his coffee down, sloshing it onto the paperwork.
โGod dammit,โ he muttered under his breath. He couldnโt get the figures to balance and trying to find a missing ten-dollar transaction in among a million dollar bank account was screwing with his head. Where had three hours gone? He glanced sideways at his lunch. Or what was left of it. He was surprised heโd managed to actually eat at all because he certainly didnโt remember the food arriving or him even picking up the ham on rye. He had to get these reports done before the accounts department could sign off on them.
He pressed the button. โGive me two,โ he said. Quickly he scooped the plate, with the remaining food, into his top drawer and straightened enough paperwork to look efficient. He didnโt recall the details of this two oโclock, just that it was someone with issues about the Foundation. Connor was used to answering all kind of questions, from students, politicians, kids to teachers and there was no one at this Foundation who knew what type of work they undertook as well as him. Apart from Miriam, who had been a PA at the Foundation longer than Connor had been alive. She knew where all the bodies were buried and Connor would be lost without her.
A knock on the door heralded the visitorโs arrival and Connor stood, brushing his shirt of crumbs as he called, โCome in.โ
The door opened and Connor had to stop his mouth falling open. Gorgeous. Very nice. Tall, slim, dark hair, with added sexy smile and confidence in the way he walked in. Connor checked him out, couldnโt help it, he hadnโt seen anything this fine in a very long time. I need to get out more. From head to toe, his gaze finally focused back on the manโs face and embarrassment washed over him when the guy was looking at him with one eyebrow raised in question. So much for subtle. Well, at least he isnโt punching me to the floor.
