Oh my goodness! What a ride the start of 2019 has been!
Hubby and I made the momentous decision to sell our house at the end of last year. That meant starting the year in a rush of last minute preparations in readiness for putting it on the market. We’d lived in the house for twenty years so we’d accumulated so much stuff! Decluttering and then packing was a trip down memory lane – so many items with so much history. It was a bitter-sweet process. I’ll admit to being a bit of a hoarder so getting up the courage to dispose of things was hard at times. I can’t tell you how many trips we made to the local opportunity shop, our storage location, the recycling centre, and finally the new house. I’m still surrounded by boxes!
One thing I’ve learnt is that I’m not a fan of being disorganised. I’m not obsessed with tidiness, but I do like most things in their place. I like to know where to find things without spending half an hour looking. I like to be able to cook dinner without having to relocate a ton of items from the bench top to give me room. I like knowing where my pots, pans, and ingredients are. And I’m sick to death of home delivery meals so was so grateful when our new fridge was delivered this week (our old one didn’t fit in the spot).
By my reckoning I have one more week before furniture is moved into its final position and everything is put away. Then I can finally collapse onto the couch and relax!
I’m looking forward to being able to settle back into a routine and start writing again. I’ve missed being able to dedicate hours to my stories and my fingers are itching to hit the keyboard.
Now, all I need to be back online and productive again, is internet. I’m living in a black hole of mobile coverage and facing huge delays in getting the internet connected. Sometimes it astounds me how behind Australia is with both our internet speeds and ability to get the damn thing turned on. But that’s another story…
The highlight of the last couple of months (apart from selling the house) has been attending two author signings. It was wonderful to spend time with our community and celebrate the love of all things books. You can check out my post about attending the signings over at Love Bytes.
Now I’m off to do some more unpacking, and hopefully some writing.
