Remember that list I was talking about? All the things I need to do to get ready for my trip to GRL and how pleased I was that I was at the end? Spoke too soon! ๐ A few extra things have been creeping up. I’ve been seeing people post about costumes. I haven’t even thought about that! Do you think it will be enough that I drag my sorry arse across the ocean and just turn up in a normal dress? Here’s hoping…
Today we meet author CJane Elliot. I hope you enjoy!
Meetย CJane Elliot
Welcome to the blog!
Thanks so much for having me! I love answering questions, so fire away.
Is this your first GRL? If not, do you have any advice for authors and/or readers who are attending? If itโs your first, what made you sign up this year?
This is my first GRL, even though Iโve been published since 2011. For the first several years of being an author, I hid away in my writing cave. But once my first novel, Serpentine Walls, was published in 2013, I decided to get more out there in the m/m writing world. I got active on my Twitter and finally broke down and got a Facebook page. I guess cons are the next logical step! I now have three novels in the Serpentine Series, so Iโll have some booksย in front of me to sign.
What are you most looking forward to about GRL this year?
The chance to meet readers. Iโve met quite a few of my fellow Dreamspinner authors by going to the Dreamspinner Authors conference the last two years. And of course, I want to meet more m/m authors. But meeting the readers will be new for me. Readers, I hope youโll come up and say hi when you see me.
What inspired you to start writing in the gay romance genre?
Fanfic! I never knew such a thing existed until I fell in love with a performer and Googling him led me to LiveJournal. My eyes bugged out when I read the first few hot m/m stories and I was hooked.
You’ll have to tell meย more about the performer you fell in love with when we meet at GRL ๐
What was the first m/m romance book you wrote? Can you share a little about the story?
I wrote four novellas previously but Iโd like to share about my first novel. Serpentine Walls is set at the University of Virginia. Itโs a New Adult contemporary about a bunch of college kids. The MC, Pete, is bitter about love and thinks he wants no part of it, but ends up falling in love in spite of himself.ย But he has a lot to learn and several other relationships to navigate before he winds up with The One. That novel has spawned two other books so far, featuring characters that were also in Serpentine Walls: Aidanโs Journey and Sex, Love, and Videogames.
What book are you currently reading or have just finished reading? Tell us a little about it.
Oh, I wish I could tell you about the one I just finished but itโs a Rainbow Award submission (Iโm helping to judge for them this year) so I canโt. It was SO good and in a genre I donโt usually like. Iโve also been reading a lot of Kim Fieldingโs books. The latest one is Brute. What a wonderful story. On first glance, the setting and plot didnโt appeal to me but Kim is a fabulous writer and I was totally drawn into this sweet love story.
Please share an interesting fact your readers may not know about you?
I was engaged to my husband two weeks after our first date and we were married 9 months later. Weโll be celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary in a few days. So those who donโt believe in โinsta-loveโ that leads to aย happily ever afterย โ Iโm here to tell you itโs possible.
Congratulations on your anniversary! I look forward to meeting you in October.

Blurb
Shy guy Jed Carter has always felt invisible next to his charismatic older brother, Kent. Kentโs master plan for Jed is simple: University of Virginia, business, sports, and ladiesโ man. None of it is Jed, except for playing on the rugby team, which he joins in defiance of soccer-loving Kent. Jed comes out in his sophomore year and starts seeing Pete, an attractive junior, who uses him for sex and videogames. Jed wants moreโin life and in loveโand starts making his own plans. First on the list: getting to know Charlie, the handsome guy working at the local videogame arcade.
Charlie Ambrose has always felt like an oddball, and not just for his tendency to stutter. Being gay sets him apart from his African-American community, and as a โtownie,โ he doesnโt fit in with the college crowd. Charlieโs inspiration is his cousin, Morocco, whoโs transgender and doesnโt give a fig about fitting in. Art is Charlieโs passion, and when a local videogame designer discovers him, Charlieโs living a dream. The only thing heโs missing is love. But the last person Charlie expects to find it with is a cute, white U.Va. rugby player named Jed.
