In a couple of days it will be October. OCTOBER!
You know that expression “so much to do, so little time”? Well it’s true!
Today we meet author J.K. Hogan. Pretty soon I”ll be meeting her in person!
Meet J.K. Hogan
Is this your first GRL? If not, do you have any advice for authors and/or readers who are attending? If it’s your first, what made you sign up this year?
This will be my third consecutive GRL, my second going as an author. My main advice is to get involved. Do something you wouldn’t normally do, because I guarantee you’ll have fun. It’s a safe space. Just like the majority of attendees, I’m an introvert, but I also have an anxiety disorder which makes a certain level of socialization very hard for me. It’s really easy to get around at GRL—if you need a break, go disappear in your room for a while, because the festivities are all right there in the hotel. 🙂
What are you most looking forward to about GRL this year?
Having some of my friends whom I never get to see (including some from other countries!) all in one place, mostly. I can’t justify the expense to just go visit somebody, but we are all convening for a shared interest, and it’s great! It’ll also be my first time in California, so I’m looking forward to that as well.
What inspired you to start writing in the gay romance genre?
I was writing m/f at first, which I still enjoy, but I was getting frustrated with the market saturation. By my 3rd m/f book, I was pretty much exclusively reading m/m for my own enjoyment. One day a story came to me in which both characters were male, and I wasn’t going to change it just because it was different.
What was the first m/m romance book you wrote? Can you share a little about the story?
My first m/m book, mentioned in the previous answer, was I Survived Seattle. It was based partly on a real life trip my husband, son, and I took to Seattle for our friends’ wedding. I’m anxious and quirky, and travelling is not my strong suit, even though I love to see new places, so I created a poor little anxiety written young man to go through all of the things I went through (and more!), only he happens to meet a handsome charter boat captain. And one thing leads to another…
What book are you currently reading or have just finished reading? Tell us a little about it.
Just finished Juggernaut by Amelia C. Gormley. I’m not normally one for post-apocalyptic or dystopian stories, but I was really into this one. Finished it in one night. LOL
Please share an interesting fact your readers may not know about you?
I’m an artist as well. Some may know this if they’re paying attention, but my hobby is drawing (American-style) yaoi. I started my own webcomic, but it’s been on hiatus for most of the summer due to my dual book releases.
Wow. You sure creative! Thanks for taking the time to stop by. I look forward to meeting you in a couple of weeks.
About J.K.
J.K. Hogan has been telling stories for as long as she can remember, beginning with writing cast lists and storylines for her toys growing up. When she finally decided to put pen to paper, magic happened. She is greatly inspired by all kinds of music and often creates a “soundtrack” for her stories as she writes them. J.K. is hoping to one day have a little something for everyone, so she’s branched out from m/f paranormal romance and added m/m contemporary romance. Who knows what’s next?
J.K. resides in North Carolina, where she was born and raised. A true southern girl at heart, she lives in the country with her husband and young son, a cat, and two champion agility dogs. If she isn’t on the agility field, J.K. can often be found chasing waterfalls in the mountains with her husband, or down in front at a blues concert. In addition to writing, she enjoys training and competing in dog sports, spending time with her large southern family, camping, boating and, of course, reading!
