I’m nearing the end of my countdown!
Today we meet author Trina Lane.ย Trina is now attending as a Featured Author so if you’re at GRL make sure you check out her author reading.
Meetย Trina Lane
Welcome! Thanks for agreeing to answer a couple of questions. Hopefully you wonโt find then too difficult. ๐
Thank you so much for having me!!!
Is this your first GRL? If not, do you have any advice for authors and/or readers who are attending? If itโs your first, what made you sign up this year?
This will be my 3rd GRL, but I also attended the informal gathering at Carol Lynneโs that started the whole party. My best piece of advice for all authors and readers is to mingle, make friends, and enjoy all the festivities–especially the go-go boys :). While networking is a key strategy for conferences, I look at this retreat as a time to simply enjoy myself and relax away the stresses of everyday life.
What are you most looking forward to about GRL this year?
Itโs been two years since I attended the last GRL so Iโm really looking forward to seeing my author friends and meeting all the readers who continue to support my writing.
What inspired you to start writing in the gay romance genre?
The simple answer is I love men. The more complicated answer is that Iโve always felt more comfortable writing from a male perspective than female. I donโt know exactly why that is, given the fact that I am a woman. But the words, personalities, and lives of my men always seem to flow more naturally than the MF books Iโve written. Iโm very proud of the MF and MFM books Iโve done. I plan to continue to writing them periodically, but gay romance seems to fill a small empty space in my heart and I always feel good about giving these men the happily ever after they deserve.
What was the first m/m romance book you wrote? Can you share a little about the story?
The first gay romance book I wrote was called Taking the Chance. It was released by Totally Bound in 2008. I was so honored when it was given the Golden Blush Recommended Read by Literary Nymphs. The story is about a pair of men whose lives are full, but not fulfilling. Robert, a mixed martial arts competitor, has put his personal life on hold to achieve his goals of becoming the world champion. When he meets Justin, an EMT, that decision seems to become more difficult than ever to maintain. Robertโs family has been supportive of his career, but theyโd like to see him find a man whose love will help him grow both as an athlete and person. Justin works two jobs and is so focused on trying to survive month to month that love seems like a pipe dream. Their journey is about both self discovery and finding that one person who is meant for you.
What book are you currently reading or have just finished reading? Tell us a little about it.
Iโm currently reading a book by Lex Chase called Americana Fairy Tale. Iโve only read a few chapters so far, but itโs a very creative twist on fairy tale lore set in contemporary times. Men can be princesses and women princes. There are evil witches and fairy godfathers. Iโm having a lot of fun with it, and canโt wait to find out what twists and turns Ms. Chase came up with to keep me on the edge of my seat.
Please share an interesting fact your readers may not know about you?
Iโm kind of known among my friends and family to be a jack of all trades and master of none. Iโm an avid photographer (landscape and architecture), historian, musician (vocal performance), doctor (is my everyday job), parent, spouse, writer (obviously ๐ย ), and I couple more I could probably come up. So my brain tends to ping pong around different topics on any given day. I figure the variety just makes me well rounded, If not a bit nutty.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by.ย I look forward to meeting you in a couple of weeks, the more nutty the better! ๐
Aboutย Trina
If you look up the word conundrum in dictionary, there should be a photo of Trina Lane. Her personality is so multifaceted that her friends have spent countless hours scratching their heads in wonder. A scientist with a passion for history, music, and photography, she loves to travel and experience new places but is terminally shy around people she doesn’t know.
Trina has been devouring romance novels since her tender teenage years, although she only began writing in 2007. When her debut novel was met with resounding success, she said “Hey, I can do that again.” The rest, as they say, is history. Her choices in reading and writing material are as diverse as her iTunes library, which contains music from Mozart to Metallica. Her one concession is all stories must have a happily ever after endingโdid we mention she’s incurably romantic? She lives in Missouri with her loving and indulgent husband, a toddler who will someday rule the world, and an orange tabby cat affectionately referred to as Houdini for his stealthy escape attempts.
