Sometimes bad things happen. Sometimes things get us down. Sometimes we just feel a little blue for seemingly no reason at all.
When I feel a little blue, there are a few things that are guaranteed to make me feel better. My problems may not be resolved but at least for a short while, they are forgotten.
I turn to the things that bring back good memories, are warm and comforting, and take me to my happy place.
Top of the list is hugs. You can’t beat a good hug, whether it’s a quick squeeze or a long snuggle. My kids are great forย this. Hubby’s not too bad either!
Comfort food is also a great pick-me-up. Chicken soup is one of the most well-known comfort foods and I have my own favourite version. Chicken Okayodon is quick and simple to make and oh, so yummy. It’s a Japanese dish – the name means parent and child – and consists of chicken (the parent) and egg (the child) poached in a fragrant broth and served over rice. The recipe I use is from Sydney celebrity chef, Bill Granger, and it is super easy.
Psst…if you can’t be bothered making soup I can highly recommendย eatingย chocolate.
When I want a comfort read, I want romantic and sweet and happy endings. I love to visit the authors and characters and places that I am alreadyย familar with. I fall back on the books where I know the formula, I know what to expect and I know I will end the story feeling warm and fuzzy. Andrew Grey often fits the bill nicely here and he’s written so many books that it’s never hard to find a new one. ๐
Whatย are your favourite comforts? Do you have a fallback comfort food or a comfort author?
