I’ve been away for the last week. It’s been wonderful. I’m in wine country, enjoying the open space and rural outlook. There are kangaroos on the back paddock. We are overlooking vineyards and olive groves. The sunsets are spectacular. The weather is wild!
For all the beauty, nature has decided that wild winds are a nice touch. Not too bad when you are rugged up in front of the fire but truly awful when you want to spend some time enjoying the great outdoors.
So we’ve been out to lunch and enjoyed some great food and wine. We’ve caught up on some movie watching and I managed to sneak in a few episodes of Spartacus. And of course I’ve managed to read a few great books!
The downside to this wonderful week away? I was living in the world of dodgy internet connection!
This is the part where I want to say how refreshing it’s been to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city and my usual daily life. I want to tell you that I loved the downtime and the peace and just spending time with my family. But I didn’t! Yes, I it was great to do things together but I couldn’t just relax into it. I WANTED my internet. I NEEDED my connection to social media. I wanted to get online so much that I mucked around for hours while pages tried to load, while applications attempted to connect. It was incredibly frustrating but I felt so happy when I established those little pockets of connectivity.
It’s been a bit confronting but I’m a big girl. I’m just going to accept that I need my social media fix. There I’ve said it. I like to know what’s happening in the world of Facebook, I like to see what people are talking about on Goodreads, I want to be able to talk about my own books and work.
Most importantly, I miss my friends. You see, there are some people I chat with via Facebook everydayβ people I talk to more than the friends I know outside of Facebook (but more on that later) and I missed that daily dose of loving β and I hope they missed me just a little bit too! π
