This snippet is from one of my current WIPs (so totally raw and unedited) – a holiday story called Play Nice. I thought I’d write it now while immersed in the Christmas spirit. It’s a bit over 6 lines but who’s counting? π

βIβm surprised to see you.β Aaron held out his hand as he approached and Hunter automatically responded passing his bag to his left hand so he could grasp Aaronβs hand in a firm handshake. βI didnβt expect youβd be coming. Your grandparents will be happy.β
Hunter ignored the thrill of Aaronβs warm and strong grip, and didnβt dare consider dwelling on the feelings just seeing the man instilled. Instead he focused on the revolting sensation of his wet, clinging jeans and his quickly numbing legs. He released Aaronβs hand and hauled his suit bag higher. βAnd why the hell not. You think Iβd miss the big party?β
Aaron had the decency to look embarrassed. βErβ¦ you havenβt been around for a while so I thoughtββ
βYou donβt know anything about me,β Hunter snapped. βNot anymore. So donβt presume.β
Aaron raised his hands, palms up and taking a step back. βHey, I didnβt mean anything by it. Anyway, Iβm sorry about the water. I didnβt realise the puddle was so deep and that you were standing so closeββ
βSo now youβre blaming me?β Hunterβs voice rose. He knew he was being unreasonable but he couldnβt hold back where Aaron was concerned. βIβm standing on the sidewalk, exactly where pedestrians are supposed to stand. Itβs not my fault that you werenβt paying attention.β

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction β a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation.Β In the group youβll find anything from romance and historical fiction to mystery and YA. The common thread is that every storyβs main character identifies as LGBTQ+. The snippets could range from zero flames to full-on sexytimes, anything goes content-wise. The only rule is snippets will be 6 sentences longβone for each color in the Pride flag.
