This snippet is from one of my current WIPs (so totally raw and unedited) – a holiday story called Play Nice. I thought I’d write it now while immersed in the Christmas spirit. It’s a bit over 6 lines but who’s counting? 😉

“I’m surprised to see you.” Aaron held out his hand as he approached and Hunter automatically responded passing his bag to his left hand so he could grasp Aaron’s hand in a firm handshake. “I didn’t expect you’d be coming. Your grandparents will be happy.”
Hunter ignored the thrill of Aaron’s warm and strong grip, and didn’t dare consider dwelling on the feelings just seeing the man instilled. Instead he focused on the revolting sensation of his wet, clinging jeans and his quickly numbing legs. He released Aaron’s hand and hauled his suit bag higher. “And why the hell not. You think I’d miss the big party?”
Aaron had the decency to look embarrassed. “Er… you haven’t been around for a while so I thought—”
“You don’t know anything about me,” Hunter snapped. “Not anymore. So don’t presume.”
Aaron raised his hands, palms up and taking a step back. “Hey, I didn’t mean anything by it. Anyway, I’m sorry about the water. I didn’t realise the puddle was so deep and that you were standing so close—”
“So now you’re blaming me?” Hunter’s voice rose. He knew he was being unreasonable but he couldn’t hold back where Aaron was concerned. “I’m standing on the sidewalk, exactly where pedestrians are supposed to stand. It’s not my fault that you weren’t paying attention.”

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction – a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation. In the group you’ll find anything from romance and historical fiction to mystery and YA. The common thread is that every story’s main character identifies as LGBTQ+. The snippets could range from zero flames to full-on sexytimes, anything goes content-wise. The only rule is snippets will be 6 sentences long–one for each color in the Pride flag.

Ooh, looks like some sparks are flying there.
Not getting off on the right foot, are they? Should be fun seeing them come together! 🙂
Heh, adversity is a great starting point for a plot and a relationship. (heart)
Nice tension! I’m sure it’ll be extra-sweet when they move past it. <3
Great tension!
