This snippet is from one of my current WIPs (so totally raw and unedited) – a holiday story called Play Nice. I thought I’d write it now while immersed in the Christmas spirit. It’s a bit over 6 lines but who’s counting? š

āIām surprised to see you.ā Aaron held out his hand as he approached and Hunter automatically responded passing his bag to his left hand so he could grasp Aaronās hand in a firm handshake. āI didnāt expect youād be coming. Your grandparents will be happy.ā
Hunter ignored the thrill of Aaronās warm and strong grip, and didnāt dare consider dwelling on the feelings just seeing the man instilled. Instead he focused on the revolting sensation of his wet, clinging jeans and his quickly numbing legs. He released Aaronās hand and hauled his suit bag higher. āAnd why the hell not. You think Iād miss the big party?ā
Aaron had the decency to look embarrassed. āEr⦠you havenāt been around for a while so I thoughtāā
āYou donāt know anything about me,ā Hunter snapped. āNot anymore. So donāt presume.ā
Aaron raised his hands, palms up and taking a step back. āHey, I didnāt mean anything by it. Anyway, Iām sorry about the water. I didnāt realise the puddle was so deep and that you were standing so closeāā
āSo now youāre blaming me?ā Hunterās voice rose. He knew he was being unreasonable but he couldnāt hold back where Aaron was concerned. āIām standing on the sidewalk, exactly where pedestrians are supposed to stand. Itās not my fault that you werenāt paying attention.ā

Ooh, looks like some sparks are flying there.
Not getting off on the right foot, are they? Should be fun seeing them come together! š
Heh, adversity is a great starting point for a plot and a relationship. (heart)
Nice tension! I’m sure it’ll be extra-sweet when they move past it. <3
Great tension!
